VICKI TURNQUIST: "WRITE THE VISION; MAKE IT PLAIN; MAKE A DIFFERENCE"
Program speaker Vicki Turnquist shared the principles that guided her in the creation of a unique concept bank and, in retirement, continue to make an impact in a CEO advisory role and participation in nonprofit organizations.

The plain-speaking vision she used was: the client comes first; do what you say you will do; and make a difference.

The result was the 1996 start of a very successful bank serving an entrepreneurial clientele. Then came 2010, “a hard, scary time” that the rest of us called the recession. Throughout that period, she maintained her vision. The bank was sold in mid-2014 but she wasn’t ready to retire. And so she continues to make a difference as a regent for Augsburg University and as a CEO coach for The Bailey Group.

Her advice: when she was most successful, it was because she was living the vision she had created. You should create a vision, too.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
We’re 68 percent of the way to our July 1-June 30 goal for giving to The Rotary Foundation, according to Dan O’Brien, who awarded a fifth sapphire to Dennis Kim and third sapphire to John Estall for their TRF giving. The annual Test Drive program will be held Jan. 11 at EPHS. The District 5950 Mid-Term Assembly will be Jan. 27 at Crown College. Drivers are needed for Meals on Wheels the first week of February; contact John Goergen if you can help. We welcomed former intern Bailey DeMets, who said he’s had a great first semester at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. President Roger Jorgensen noted the receipt of several thank- you notes, including from Cornerstone, PROP, and Camp Enterprise attendees. He noted that club member Gary Bergren matched the amount donated to the Salvation Army during our recent bell-ringing day, raising the total donated to roughly $1,500.

SPOTLIGHT ON ORV SEITSEMA
After graduating from high school in Charles City, Iowa, in 1957, Orv Sietsema started college and headed down a mortuary-science career path that would include 43 years as a funeral director, the last 20 of those with Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels. Orv is enjoying retirement; he and his wife have a daughter and son, two grandchildren, and most recently their first great-grandchild. Thanks for being an Eden Prairie A.M. Rotarian, Orv.

HAPPY BUCKS
We are happy and willing to kick in $5 to explain why. President Roger Jorgensen is happy for all the support the club provided during his September-through- December work crunch. Holly Link is happy to be serving as the newly elected treasurer of the Eden Prairie School Board; Rotarians Elaine Larabee and Adam Seidel are serving as chair and clerk, respectively. Dan O’Brien is happy that his family hosted exchange student Trini over the holidays; there are many things she’d like to experience before leaving and Dan encouraged club members to include her in outings. Caryl Hansen is happy to be celebrating her 86th birthday on the same day her youngest granddaughter is celebrating her own 13 th birthday. Suzanne Kutina is happy to be hosting the next Swallowship and is enjoying getting to know club members.
