AMY ZELLMER: Overcoming Life with a Traumatic Brain Injury
Guest speaker Amy Zellmer – a photographer, speaker, and author – shared what life has been like after suffering a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Amy has written a book and begun speaking to groups to raise awareness about TBI’s and what life is like for individuals who are trying to recover. A traumatic brain injury commonly occurs when there is a fall or collision, or a whiplash effect from the brain hitting the inside of one’s skull. For Zellmer it was slipping and falling on ice, and striking her head on the ground. She suffered a severe concussion, whiplash, and a dislocated sternum – and still suffers from headaches and neuro-fatigue, even though the incident happened nearly one year ago. Each year a reported 2.5 million persons sustain a TBI, according to Zellmer, and in many cases the injury isn’t apparent to others. So, it’s important for people to know that the lingering effects are many even if unseen: headaches and other chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, and more. TBI sufferers deserve compassion, so help them out.

 SPOTLIGHT ON ADAM SEIDEL
New member Adam Seidel has lived in Eden Prairie since he was 5 years old, attended Eden Prairie schools, and this week was sworn in as one of the newest members of the Eden Prairie School Board – a neat little “circle-of-life” story. He graduated from Northwestern with an economics degree and has a State Capitol job focusing on finance. He has interests in veterans affairs, sports play-by-play announcing, music, and much more. Welcome to the club, Adam.

HAPPY FINES
We’re happy. And we’re willing to pay fines for being so.
  • Mike Kraines is happy because his employees at CHOICE Inc. are donating $100 to Rotary as part of their Friday-is-Blue-Jeans-Day campaign.
  • Roger Jorgensen is happy to give a tip-of-the-cap to the Vikings for their recent win over the Packers.
  • Bethany Tjornhom is pleased to announce that PROP will hold its Empty Bowls fund-raiser on Feb. 23 at St. Andrew Church.
  • John Crudele is happy about his recent, successful trip to hunt mule deer.
  • John Melander is happy about his son’s recent football success at the University of St. Thomas and his own pending trip to the Bahamas.
  • Cathy Haukedahl is happy to solicit help for her outdoors-working husband; his crew is seeking a microwave oven for their work trailer so coffee can be warmed up in this terribly cold weather.

VISITORS
Guests this morning included the two captains of the EPHS girls hockey team, Kate Rydland and Carly Molenaar, and two of the four captains of the EPHS boys hockey team, Nolan Sullivan and Cole Lawrence.
Kate plans to play hockey at Penn State when she graduates; Carly is undecided on which college she will attend, but options are the University of Minnesota, Iowa State, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Their team is 13-5-2 and ranked fifth in the state despite losing seven seniors from last year’s team. Play-offs will begin in February.
Nolan is still a junior, so hasn’t decided on college. Cole too is undecided and may play junior hockey next year before attending college. Their team is 11-2, won two recent holiday tournaments, and will be one of the favorites when play-offs begin.

Faryl Kluis from Faribault was in attendance
