North Minneapolis Rotary Club members Peace and Conflict Resolution Project
Project chairs V.J. Smith and Gloria Howard will provide an overview of North Minneapolis Rotary Club's Peace and Conflict Resolution Project, telling what they have accomplished and what they have planned in 2017, and then asking our club to take the peace pledge.
Background:
The Rotary Club of North Minneapolis is known as the Little Club that Can. Founded in 2012, they work hard to both promote North Minneapolis and to make it a better, more harmonious place to live. While much of North Minneapolis has vibrant, lively and diverse neighborhoods, we acknowledge that parts of our area have very high crime rates and gang violence. They believe positive activities often displace negative activity as people take back their streets and neighborhoods.
In 2015, the Club received a District 5950 Grant to promote Peace and Justice in the neighborhoods of North Minneapolis. In partnership with Men Against Destruction-Defending Against Drugs and Social-Disorder (MAD DADS) an international organization bringing conflict resolution and peace advocacy to troubled areas, their Rotary Club organized a variety of activities to spotlight Peace and Justice. Board members shared an update on goals before getting club input using a Kahoot survey and group discussions. Click on Goals Update to see the powerpoint.
People had fun using Kahoot on their cellphones to get their opinions counted in the tallies projected on the screen. Pictured here were two of the groups discussing questions about what makes our club special, what could improve the club, what suggestions they had for speakers, and what they thought of the Kahoot reults or process.
If you missed the meeting or missed answering some questions either on Kahoot or in discussions, please share your ideas by Jan. 13 in this Survey Monkey that was emailed on Thurs.
