Year End Celebration!

June 16 is our Year-End Celebration: we will mark the end of one Rotary year and the beginning of another. We'll thank outgoing President Jared Chester and our 2014-15 leaders, and welcome incoming President Jan Eian and 2015-16 leaders. We'll remember what we set out to do and what we did well in the current year, and take a few minutes to review goals and plans for the upcoming year. We'll have some awards, recall some memories, thank our fantastic interns and hear about their plans for next year, and hand off the gavel.  See you there!

Reminders
The June Board Meeting follows our Year-End Celebration.

We have completed our move to online billing through Club Runner, and you received your first bill through the new system last week. We will no longer be running payments on your credit card. You will be able to pay your bill online with a credit card through the secure SAGE billing service by following the link on your invoice. As always, you can also choose to pay your bill by dropping off payment at the Sergeant at Arms desk or mailing it to P.O.Box 44603, Eden Prairie, MN 55344.  If you have any questions, please contact Mo or Kelly.

Boy Scout Troop 479
Our presentation on June 9 was by 4 members of Boy Scout Troop 479, a local troop our club sponsors. Troop 479 has 71 scouts including 6 new members this year and an astonishing 7 Eagle scouts. Activities in the past year included a sea base adventure in which several scouts sailed the Florida Keys and another camping adventure in Wind Rivers in Wyoming. This year they have trips planned for the Boundary Waters and a ranch in Philmont, New Mexico.
Several scouts researched purchasing new tents that are higher and have a fitted larger footprint. Their goal is to purchases 20 new tents for the troop at a cost of $349 each.
When asked what they have learned from their experience in scouting all four scouts had different answers:
  • “Perseverance”
  • “The joy of learning”
  • “Leadership”
  • “No matter how well you plan, something will go wrong!”
Announcements
  • Watch for new invoices generated through clubrunner and emailed to you.
  • June 18 is the installation of next year’s District Governor, Tim Murphy.
  • There are still tickets available for the Twins game on June 20.
  • Board meeting is scheduled for June 16 after the regular meeting.
Spotlight on Laurie McKendry
Laurie told us of her childhood in which she attended a different school almost every year. She founded a telecom company in 1995 and sold it in 2005 to focus on business to business consulting. She then returned to business school and has just 4 classes left to complete her MBA. In her words she “did things a little backwards, started a business and then went to business school.”
Laurie has recently withdrawn from her race for the State Senate. In addition she has put her home in Minnetonka on the market and will be moving to the Uptown area. Sadly she may be leaving our club but hopes to continue her service through Rotary at one of the many fine Minneapolis clubs.
Happy Fines
  • Yvonne Selcer reported a successful surgery to remove cancerous polyps from her colon and does not need to go through radiation or chemo-therapy.
  • Roger Jorgensen enjoyed the commencement address by his Strive mentee, Emmett Dysart
