Packing meals at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC)

Jared Chester introduced our program and gave a $2000 check from the Club to FMSC toward its mission of eliminating starvation in children.

Cheryl and Tom of FMSC staff welcomed us and gave us background info:
  • One in 8 children in the world today is starving, down from 1 in 7 four years ago.
  •  In 2014 FMSC packed and delivered 209,000 meals to 70 nations with 100% of the meals packed by volunteers, using food purchased by private donations, and all distributed by local partners.
  • Feeding starving children is the foundation for the people receiving the food.to make other progress with jobs, education, healthcare, food and water.
  • FMSC is rated a 4-star charity, the highest rating by Charity Navigator for its low administrative costs and its handling of funds and expenses.

After going over the rules, our members and Interact volunteers split up into warehouse crew, labeling crew, and food processing and packing crew.  We got into it and began to be productive, working as a well-oiled machine.  One hour later we had packed 24 boxes equaling 5,000 meals which means 14 kids will be fed for a year.  We made a big difference!  Thank you to all who worked a great packing shift! Special thanks to Pei Ling Jamison for bringing the food and organizing the event.

If you’d like to help, the website is: fmsc.org.  Telephone # 763-504-2919, and address: 18732 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen, MN 55317.   Volunteer help for packing is needed with many shifts available. Donations are also needed with nothing too small or too big.
