Debbie Goettel was our speaker for our May 2, 2023 meeting. Commissioner Goettel is a Rotarian and served ten years as the Mayor of Richfield, MN. She is an engineer by profession. Members learned how Hennepin County is using the $245.9 million dollars the county received from the Federal Government as part of the American Rescue Plan Act – State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.
The funds were allocated as follows:
Housing $88,670,000 35.4%
Health 57,825,000 23.1%
Other, Domain Infrastructure 41,801,764 16.7%
Income 23,000,000 9.2%
Justice 15,511,086 6.2%
Employment 12,580,000 5.0%
Transportation 10,000,000 4.0%
Education 775,000 .3%
These funds fueled programs to tackle reductions in conflict and crime, food insecurity, access to broadband and technology for at-risk populations, maternal health, affordable housing and more.
