Dr. Josh Swason and Dr. Stacie Stanley: EP Schools upcoming referendum--- long term vision, facilities

Drs. Swanson and Stanley presented a brief update on enrollment, new welcome center, personalized learning accomplishments and the upcoming levy vote. EP Schools had the first increase in enrollment in a decade. The welcome center was opened across from Central Middle School. The 2014 operating levy provided necessary funding to enable the district to reduce class sizes and made Eden Prairie a leader in personalized learning. The current levy was the culmination of three years of facility planning resulting in the board approving a $39.9M bond levy to –
 
  • Increase access to flexible learning space, including redesigning classrooms,
  • Move pre-school to elementary schools,
  • Move 6th grade to middle school,
  • Improve security at every school
  • Upgrade performing arts, physical education/wellness and cafeteria spaces at CMS, and
  • Add a classroom wing at CMS
The impact to taxpayers is $6.50 per month on a $400,000 home. Details of the levy request can be found at http://www.epvote2019.org/faq.html.

Spotlight on John Estall

John grew up in Richfield and obtained an accounting degree at Bemidji State University. After working a couple of years in accounting he attended law school. Upon graduation he accepted a position as tax counsel at Cargill. After a while he went back to his true love, Accounting. John and his wife have two children. His son graduates from law school this spring and daughter is working on Master of Science degree. John recently retired from teaching accounting at Minnesota State University, Mankato and is enjoying time with family and volunteering in the community.

Irene Kelly is happy to be back with her home club and encouraged registration for District Conference. Mark Weber thanked those who attended EP Gives event. PG Naryan also happy about EP Gives event where nearly $40,000 raised for TreeHouse.
