Notes from February 6, 2018
AARON GLASS, PHILLIP KUHN AND OTHERS - "CAMP ENTERPRISE"
TA.M. Rotarian Aaron Glass, student intern Phillip Kuhn, and his friends Nick and Nick related their experiences at the most recent Camp Enterprise, an intensive, three-day camp sponsored by Rotary and designed to develop high school students’ business skills through competitive role playing. Aaron was a mentor and judge, and another club member, John Crudele, was one of the camp’s motivational speakers. Aaron said the quality of the speakers and program was impressive – in some ways, at the level of a college business school. Speakers included: market strategist Thom Winninger; Isabel and Caroline Bercaw, teenage owners of Da Bomb Bath Fizzers; Randy Stenger, owner of Extreme Sandbox and past Shark Tank participant; and Ping Yeh, MN Cup grand prize winner and CEO of StemoniXinc More than 100 students attended the program at Camp Ihduhapi. They were divided into teams and assigned a product to develop and present – all in competition for a fictitious $5 million in venture capital. “It made learning about business a lot of fun,” one of the Nicks said.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
More drivers are needed to deliver Meals on Wheels the second week of March; contact John Goergen if you can help. Four families are needed to share hosting duties – one week each – for a Korean college student visiting us at the end of June; talk to Dennis Kim if you can help. We’ll be at Feed My Starving Children starting at 7:15 a.m. Feb. 27 to pack meals. Attend the District Assembly on May 21.

SPOTLIGHT ON CARYL HANSEN
From a farm and small-schoolhouse upbringing near Henning, Minn., club member Caryl Hansen carved out an impressive career in aviation business, including a stint at Northwest Airlines. She married John 59 years ago, and they have four children and three grandchildren. The Hansens moved to Eden Prairie in 1966, and Caryl for 10 years managed Gregg Nelson Travel in Eden Prairie. She’s led our club’s involvement in Meals on Wheels for about 25 years, and has also served the community as a member of the Flying Cloud Airport Advisory Commission. Thanks, Caryl, for your unflagging contributions to A.M. Rotary and to Eden Prairie overall.

HAPPY BUCKS
We are happy and willing to kick in $5 to explain why. Dennis Kim contributed $5 for the Korean college student who could not visit last year, and $5 for the one expected in June. Elaine Larabee was happy to point out the involvement of EPHS students and EPHS grads in the recent Super Bowl halftime show. Mike Lewis is happy to have a daughter at home while on a break from Peace Corps duties in Ethiopia. Becky Deelstra is happy to have a daughter and her family moving back to Minnesota from Arizona.
