Russ Michaletz: Goals for Rotary and District 5950

The new governor of Rotary District 5950, Russ Michaletz, outlined Rotary goals for the coming year, goals that are based on Rotary’s new strategic planning as well as direction set by the new president of Rotary International, Mark Maloney.

Michaletz said it’s important for Rotary to do the following:

  • Increase it impact in ways that are noticed locally and worldwide.
  • Enlarge the organization, not just membership but also participation.
  • Engage members in new and creative ways to improve membership retention.
  • And, adjust member rules and expectations to make it easier for members to join, participate, and do business within the organization.

Much of the new emphasis is on membership because the international organization is at about 1.2 million members – an impressive amount, but about the same number as 10 years ago.

Michaletz has goals that align with the four mentioned above, especially membership retention. That requires clubs to deliver on the expectations of its members, including fun and fellowship, service, and networking. There may be more room for improvement in “networking” than the other two, he noted.

Club members can help Michaletz by responding to the online survey he emailed to everyone July 10. The deadline to complete the short survey is July 24.

Announcements

The July 23 meeting will be a club assembly with discussion focusing on involvement and fundraising. Our July 30 program is Nicole Barnes of the Park Nicollet Foundation speaking on “Growing Through Grief” and our Aug. 6 program features Anya Falk, an exchange student from Belgium. A 5:30 p.m. gathering of women Rotary members will be held July 25 at Jan Eian’s home; bring a friend or spouse. Club members are reminded to fill out President John Crudele’s Vino & Fundraising Survey as soon as possible. Sandhya Gupta offered thanks for the club’s donation of $10,500 over the past year to fund her India projects around education and clean water, and she offered an update on progress.

Happy Fives

Irene Kelly is thankful for the club’s support during her past year as Rotary District 5950 governor. Joe Stoebner is happy about taking on additional gardening this summer while his son is in the Arctic and his daughter is in Africa. Laurie Pryor is happy about a new grandchild, her seventh. Jane McGinty is happy about the students from abroad that will soon be appearing at club meetings. Guest and new District Governor Russ Michaletz is grateful for Irene’s team approach to governance the past year.
