ROTARACT ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Notes from April 17, 2018
TERRI MATTSON: MINDFULLY CHOOSING WELLNESS, ONE SMALL CHANGE AT A TIME
Our speaker was Terri Mattson, life coach and wellness speaker, who urged us to nudge closer to better health by being mindful of the small decisions that need to be planned and made.

She has developed a business called Beginning Today Wellness and has learned that to make changes in one’s life you need to have a reason for doing so. Her reasons? She wants to be a healthy spouse and mom. What are yours?

Most of the rest is about being mindful of the many decisions you make during the course of the day, and planning for new and healthier habits. For instance, a small amount of time spent planning your daily meals will prevent you from lining up at the fast-food drive-through. Writing an activity in your calendar will get you walking, training, meditating, socializing – whatever will lead to better wellness.

Other small changes that can make a difference are: get up from your desk at least once per hour; drink 6-8 glasses of water per day; sit quietly and meditate for 20 minutes a day (an hour if you’re too busy – ha, ha); and
stop worrying over things you cannot control.

Bottom line: “You really do have choices!”

SPOTLIGHT ON AARON CASPER
New member Aaron Casper offered his vocational. Aaron works for National Insurance Services and specializes in public-sector benefit plans, including plans for school districts. He has clients throughout Minnesota and flies a plane to many of those Greater Minnesota locations. He and his wife will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary soon; they have four children and the youngest will soon be the fourth to go through the Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion School in Eden Prairie. They have resided in Eden Prairie since 1974, and Aaron spent 10 years with the EP Fire Department, most recently as a lieutenant.

HAPPY BUCKS
We are happy and willing to kick in $5 to explain why. Holly Link had a great time on a vacation with grown kids, including a son who announced a job promotion. Dennis Kim is happy that Jane McGinty and Cheryl Eastbourne are stepping forward to help host a short-term visit from a Korean student. Lyndon Moquist is happy about a daughter graduating St. Kate’s and winning a hard-to- get slot in the University of Minnesota’s medical nutrition therapy program.
