TERRI MATTSON: MINDFULLY CHOOSING WELLNESS, ONE SMALL CHANGE AT A TIMEOur speaker was Terri Mattson, life coach and wellness speaker, who urged us to nudge closer to better health by being mindful of the small decisions that need to be planned and made. She has developed a business called Beginning Today Wellness and has learned that to make changes in one’s life you need to have a reason for doing so. Her reasons? She wants to be a healthy spouse and mom. What are yours? Most of the rest is about being mindful of the many decisions you make during the course of the day, and planning for new and healthier habits. For instance, a small amount of time spent planning your daily meals will prevent you from lining up at the fast-food drive-through. Writing an activity in your calendar will get you walking, training, meditating, socializing – whatever will lead to better wellness. Other small changes that can make a difference are: get up from your desk at least once per hour; drink 6-8 glasses of water per day; sit quietly and meditate for 20 minutes a day (an hour if you’re too busy – ha, ha); and stop worrying over things you cannot control. Bottom line: “You really do have choices!” |
